Produce and Food Distribution Company
Unique Business Problem: Produce and Food Distribution Company located in the Midwest - A produce and food distribution organization with sales in excess of $10m had outgrown their aged ERP system. The business requirements for this customer included: inventory/warehouse management, pricing, coordinated picking/packing, delivery routing, reporting on item performance/trends, automated purchasing, online ordering, automatic order fulfillment, landed costs, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and much more were all functions needed by this rapidly growing, privately-held organization.
One major piece of functionality needed and that was an “absolute” in the eyes of the two firm’s principals was what they termed, “template-based order entry system.” In their words, “not only do we need a quick way to have orders entered into the system by our customer service agents – we need order entry templates that are based on the previous ordering habits of the customer. For example, as our CSR’s are taking an order from our client, and we noticed the customer didn’t order 10 cases of lettuce as he has in previous orders, we want the system to prompt our customer service agents of the fact the customer may have forgot to order the 10 cases of lettuce. A system that provides that kind of functionality would allow our firm to capture business that might have otherwise been lost to a competitor.”
Unique IDT Solution: To address that unique need, IDT proposed Dynamics GP, however such unique capabilities requested by the prospect were clearly not functionality that could be delivered “out of the box.” As a result, the IDT implementation team architected an approach that customized Dynamics GP in such a way without modifying the underlying Dynamics GP code base. IDT’s approach not only solved the customer’s unique business problem, but IDT performed the customizations that kept the standard Dynamics GP code base intact – ensuring that future upgrades delivered by Microsoft would never be a concern whether or not they would work for the customer. IDT also converted legacy, historical accounting data from a previously used accounting system that provide bookkeeping like features into Dynamics GP – providing a smooth transition from the old system to the new Dynamics GP system.
Market Applicability: Manufacturing, Distribution, Order Fulfillment, E-Commerce. While the unique capability was delivered to a produce and food distributor, such functionality would be useful for any client that has heavy order volume and desires the use of templates and other user-friendly features to enter in orders quickly and accurately.
